—Templates as a starting point.
So as a starting point I selected four typefaces which I like, know and currently use a lot. These were Apercu, Avenir, Highway & Neutra. Even though they were all at 100pt, they were all slightly different sizes, due to their varying x-heights, so I expanded them to a shape, and made them all mathematically and/or visually equal. From this stage I can trace off and use these overlaid letters as starting point...
